Early Drug Development


Dr. Lucas is a seasoned senior executive with more than 25 years of experience in the biotechnology and drug delivery industries. She started her industrial career at Genentech, working for 8 years as a Scientist/Sr. Scientist in the Analytics/Immunochemistry department and delivering numerous assays for several of Genentech’s research and development projects. From 1993 to 1995, she created the Analytics and Quality Control department for Cell Genesys Inc. and contributed to the company’s first gene therapy IND as well as to the creation of Xenomouse, the foundational technology for Abgenix. She then joined ALZA Corporation and was there for 11 years through Alza’s purchase by Johnson and Johnson, first as Director/Sr. Director of the Analytical department for 4 years, then as Vice President of Biopharmaceutical R&D, creating novel protein delivery technologies such as long-term implantable systems and non-invasive delivery to the brain. Her subsequent assignment was as Sr. VP of Development at Trinity Biosystems, a start-up biotech company focused on oral protein delivery. Dr. Lucas holds a Ph.D. in Neurochemistry from the University of Sciences in Paris, France, and spent 2 years as an NIH Postdoctoral Fellow in the department of Neuropathology at Stanford University School of Medicine.
